About This Project

I don't remember the first time I ever heard about the College Football Belt, but I know it was through Reddit on r/cfb.  It was probably at some point during my time at the University of Alabama around 2015 or so.  It was the original site (which no longer exists) where I was first introduced to it.  I was always fascinated by the idea, and though they started with Miami in the 80's, I always thought it would be better to go all the way back to the first College Football game ever played.  At some point after I finished grad school and moved to Colorado, around 2019 or 2020, I decided to start tracking it.  Between work and other commitments it took me over a year to finish tracking it all the way.  It didn't help that a few times in the early 1900's some extremely obscure teams won the belt.  I went so far as to find archives of old newspapers from those towns, and scans of annuals from those schools, to try to find full schedules for them.  I cannot 100% guarantee I found everything, but I tried my best.

In 2021, I decided to create a website and publish my findings.  I spent a month or two building it.  Eventually I discovered other websites with the same information (though our records might not match, I haven't fully checked) and due to increased demand for my time at work, I let the project slip before I finished fully building the site.  Now, in January of 2025, I decided to start the website back from scratch.  Though I know I am not the only one to claim to have a belt lineage all the way back to the first College Football game ever played, I promise the experience on my site will provide you with more information about the belt and the teams that have held it or played for it than any other.  As of today, January 20th, 2025, the main pages are all built, and I am just working on building all the individual team pages.  I hope to have them all done well before the start of the 2025 football season.
